Funeral for Reubin H. Grant Draws Relatives to Bryan

Miss Laura Jenkins of Oklahoma City traveled to Bryan to attend the funeral of her uncle Reubin H. Grant who died early Monday at his Fountain plantation home in Brazos Valley. Services were held at 3 p.m. at the residence of cousins Mr. and Mrs. N. A. Stewart on South Parker Avenue. Jane remains home with a severe flu while Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Dodson and Bernice Blackwell returned to Bryan from Houston after a Christmas visit.

City workers using graders to level dirt streets after last week’s wet weather. Streets being graded and prepared, with graveling of additional dirt streets to resume next week.

Funeral Service Held Monday for J F Burlin

Joe F Burlin aged 56 died at his daughter's home on West 25th Street Christmas afternoon after a week long illness with flu pneumonia. Survived by widow and eleven children including Robert in Oklahoma City Will in Kilgore Henry Milam Tom Frank and Annie May Burlin plus daughters Mrs Charles Higgs Mrs Joe Dawson and Mrs Carl Crabb. Funeral held Monday at 2 30 from the Dawson residence with Rev S Holloman officiating. Interment Red Hill Cemetery four miles west of Bryan. Burial in Ohio for College Land Who Died Friday

Funeral services were held at McCulloch Dansby chapel for Dean Merwin Bilsing six years old son of Dr S W Bilsing of A and M College who died Friday afternoon of pneumonia. Rev Norman Ander ton led services with Presbyterian church quartet. His body was sent to Crestline Ohio for burial after a service in Bryan and at home. Burial plans include interment in the family burying ground. The boy is survived by his parents and a brother William Albert Bilsing.

Gas stove explodes injures no one at College Avenue home

Bryan fire department responded to an explosion of a small gas stove at the Will Higgs residence on College Avenue during the morning. Little damage occurred and the fire was extinguished before fire trucks arrived.

Nine National Championship winner in 4-H canning event

Wanete Guthrie, 15, of Fulton Kansas, won the 1932 National Canning Championship of the 4 H Club. Guthrie canned 3 004 pints of fruits meats and vegetables in six years of club projects. The nationwide contest involved more than 100 000 4 H girls.

Funeral Service for Bryan Girl Sunday Morning

Miss Jessie Dell Deason daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Deason died at the family home in Bryan on December 24 following inflammatory rheumatism. A lifelong member of the First Baptist Church she is mourned by parents four brothers and two sisters and many friends. The funeral was held Sunday morning at 2 00 from the First Baptist church with Pastor Dr. William Andrew presiding. Interment followed in Bryan City Cemetery with pallbearers drawn from the B Y P U in which she served faithfully.

Free Will Baptist Group Hosts White Christmas Pageant

Members of the Free Will Baptist Sunday School and church congregation staged a Christmas program titled A Tribute of Love directed by Mrs. Jess Hensarling. The pageant featured primary, intermediate and junior divisions with a manger centerpiece and gifts collected for benevolence agencies. Music by the intermediate choir included Christmas carols.

Dehart Returned to Prison for Five Year Term

Otis DeHart, who escaped from Brazos county jail and was later recaptured, was sent to Huntsville on Thursday by Bud Russell to serve a five year sentence from Cherokee county for highway robbery. He had been jailed in Edge for robbery of a store and a blown safe while on furlough.

The Cole Hardware Co. in Bryan has been purchased by BE Yeager Hardware Co. The deal, arranged between receiver Carl Cole and EB Yeager, closes after a period of negotiations and a store closure since Thursday. The Young People's League of the Methodist church sang Christmas carols at about 20 homes on Bryan's east side Thursday night led by Mrs. E. R. Bryant. Weather may delay a second outing tonight as plans target the west side.

Woodville school pupils enjoyed a Christmas tree distribution Friday at 2 30 p m. Mrs P A Tardy treated the students to presents while mint chewing gum and pencils were shared. Ten visitors attended the event and witnessed the exchange with Mrs Tardy receiving a tree with presents.

World cotton crop shrinks by 3 3 million bales year over year

In Austin on December 27 economist Dr A B Cox notes US Department of Agriculture's December 8 forecast of 12 727 000 bales for the American crop, up 780 000 from November. Texas forecast raised to 4 445 000 bales, reflecting nearly 1 000 000 fewer bales than last year.

Stolen Ford Roadster Found in Navasota

The Ford roadster owned by Winifred Carrell, stolen Tuesday night from Main Street in Bryan, was found Friday afternoon on Navasota’s Main Street by D. D. Jolly with Navasota police. The car was unoccupied and no suspects were located. The odometer showed about 300 miles driven.

Varied Christmas Program At Bryan High School

A senior class sponsored Christmas program at Stephen F. Austin High School featured a choral club quartet and performances by Spanish Latin and French classes. The French two act play was directed by Miss Aquila Smith and Sam Crenshaw with Miss Louise Dyer reading The Night Before Christmas in French. Santa Claus distributed gifts and candy as Miss Loraine Smith performed, and classes were dismissed until January 2.
