Mr and Mrs Geo L Sampson of Nacogdoches visited Bryan and College friends over New Year weekend and left today for Dallas for a business trip. Mr and Mrs Geo Stephan and daughter Gloria Glyn returned from visits to San Antonio Monterrey and Saltillo Mexico. Mrs Laura Gooch and Mrs James Randolph of Nava­sota motored to Bryan and visited friends returning home this afternoon.

County Officials Take Oaths and Begin New Terms

County officers mostly won re election and filed bonds on Monday. Sheriff J H Reed started his third term, Roy Montgomery began his third as treasurer, and A S McSwain was sworn in for a third term as county judge. Several other officials also took oaths and new or continued terms.

Boy Wounded in Leg by Knife While Hunting Near Wellborn

Wallis Price, son of Mrs Lola Price, received a deep leg cut above the ankle while hunting with friends near Wellborn on Thursday. The wound bled severely. five stitches were required and tetanus serum given. He was taken to a local hospital and is now at his grandmother Mrs A Straub’s home. He hopes to return to school Monday on crutches.

Fire damages roof after defective flue causes blaze

Fire crews respond to a Saturday night incident at 31st street and old Parker avenue where a defective flue caused a fire that damaged the roof of a structure. No injuries reported.

Needy Aided by RFC Cash in Two Months

Reconstruction Finance Corporation funds assisted 129 people in November and December totaling 1377.95 with expenditures on labor and relief. Overhead included a Longview trip, bonds, bookkeeper costs, and office supplies. Future aid would follow the same pattern if a January–March grant of about 27000 is approved.

Future Farmers Elect Delegate for Huntsville District Meeting

Perry Payne was elected representative from Stephen F. Austin High School Future Farmers of America to the district meeting in Huntsville on Saturday. The group met at the high school Monday night to discuss plans for a father and son barbecue and reviewed members projects from the past year.

Mrs Brock Attends Texas Club Directors Meeting

Meat Canning Demonstration Held in Kurten

In Kurten the meat canning display took place at the Gilpin home with 12 attendees. An animal weighing 300 pounds live produced 76 cans valued at 20.85 dollars, an increase of 10.90 dollars after meat and canning expenses.

Red Cross Work Progresses Amid Brazos County Children

Mrs. W. E. Neeley, county chair for Junior Red Cross in Brazos County, earns commendation for enrolling about 500 pupils across eleven schools for 1952-33. Enrolled schools receive magazines, calendars, posters, and cards to boost program participation.

Mrs Cunningham to Instruct Club Girls in Reporting

Mrs Minnie Fisher Cunningham editor of the Extension Service will meet with the presidents and reporters of both the girls and women's clubs of Brazos and Grimes counties in Bryan on Saturday January 7 to instruct them in how to report club activities to newspapers. Family of seven perishes in Ohio fire as kerosene blast blamed

In Shelby Ohio James Miller his wife and five children died when a kerosene lamp exploded while they lit a fire. The flames engulfed three beds where the family slept. Miller told his father in law the blaze started from the exploding kerosene. In Midland Walter Hood 40 and his three children and his brother Jack's child died in Barstow Ward County when gasoline on a wood fire exploded. Mrs Hood and Mrs Jack Hood were badly burned and hospitalized.

Youth Injures Foot While Chopping Wood at Edge

Carl Orr son of Mr and Mrs J O Orr of Edge suffered a severe foot injury when an axe struck the top of his right foot and cut a tendon and bone. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is reported as doing as well as could be expected.

Unidentified Man Killed by Train in Dallas

An unidentified man about 60 years old was killed by an inbound train as he walked along the tracks in Dallas on Monday. Officials did not release his name pending notification of relatives.

Milner daughter Tabitha dies at Henderson

Miss Tabitha Milner, daughter of former A and M College president Col. R. T. Milner, died Saturday night at the family home in Henderson. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today, interment in Henderson. Surviving are her mother Mrs. R. T. Milner and brother R. T. Milner Jr. She was active in Red Cross and civic work and contributed historical pieces to the Dallas News.

Owner of Turkey Flock Buys Christmas Bird

Gainesville January 3 The Gainesville ginner Charles J Johnson could not reach his Era community farm due to four inches of rain. He had 82 turkeys offered at six cents a pound but bought a replacement turkey for ten cents a pound for Christmas dinner.

Funeral service set Tuesday for Ross Scardino

Funeral services for Ross Scardino, 76, will be held Tuesday at ten oclock at St Anthony s Catholic church Bryan with Rev B Brain officiating. He died Monday afternoon after a short illness. He is survived by his widow a son Peter Scardino and two daughters Mrs Jasper Bonner and Mrs Joe Ricker all of Burleson county. The family long resided at the old Scardino home at Pitts bridge across the Brazos river. Interment followed at Mount Calvary cemetery.

Red Cross Flour Aids 2370 Needy in Brazos County

The Brazos Red Cross reports flour distribution to the needy poor from April to December 1932. Two shipments of 23 046 pounds each totaling 46 080 pounds aided 474 families in Bryan and county, estimated at five persons per family, totaling 2 370 people helped. The effort is carried out by the local Red Cross chapter with Good Cheer of Bryan.

Negro Held in Jail on Burglary Charge

Seth Holmes, a Negro, is lodged in the county jail charged with burglarizing the store of Jim Darwin and stealing tobacco and other merchandise. A hearing before Justice J. T. McGee will occur within days. Holmes already has a five year suspended sentence from the October 1930 term after a jury convicted him of transporting liquor.

Sales of Cans and Canners Show Big Gain This Year

By Blanche Brown Rural women in Brazos County lead food preservation efforts helped by extension work. Bryan merchants sold 101000 tin cans, 41 pressure cookers, 28 sealers, 1692 glass jars as part of a statewide rise. Twenty one thousand three hundred six quarts canned by 90 home demonstration club women and girls valued at 4857.34, plus 3739 quarts by 29 other families.

The Gryan city fire department sees a close attendance prize contest between Bill Blazek of Company 1 and Frank Cash of Company 2. Farm home destroyed in Brazos farm fire

Mrs. G B Wallace received word from her brother Arch Smith that the Clay farm in Brazos county burned Friday night destroying the house and all its contents. The family was not injured but left with nothing.
