Temporary wooden school structure to aid opening in September

Work has begun on a three room wooden structure at the colored school grounds. It measures 100 feet by 20 feet and will cost about 1650 dollars. Completion is planned before the September 6 opening. The city street force improves dirt streets citywide and around Howell Lumber Company for the September fair. Park improvements at Sue Haswell Memorial Park paused due to street work but will resume soon.

Old Settlers Home Coming Set With Grimes County Fair

Grimes County Old Settlers Association plans a public meeting and home coming on Thursday September 30 in conjunction with the county fair. The program will feature speeches historical reviews and old songs.

John O'Connor and Miss Annie Cahill were married at St Joseph's Church in a quiet ceremony Aug 17. Rev J B Gleissner officiated with Mendelssohn music, Ella Cahill maid of honor, Pete Vitopil best man, and St Joseph's choir singing. The couple plans a North Texas honeymoon and will reside in Bryan after visiting relatives.

Texas farm youths named for 17th Farmers Short Course trip

A list of 26 Texas farm boys and girls who attended the seventeenth annual Farmers Short Course at College Station August 2 to 7 as guests of Missouri Pacific Lines. The group received transportation and expenses for winning county story-writing contests. Not all could be pictured. Wholesalers of Waco Anticipate Rush of Business

Special to the Eagle reports Waco wholesalers and manufacturers expect a heavy fall buying season from August 16 to 28. Crops have been excellent, and merchants are promised inducements through central location and lower prices. The Chamber of Commerce arranged access to golf courses and social events for visiting buyers during the period.

Teachers contracts due by first of September

Cotton prospects bright in Brazos Valley tour report

Bryan Chamber of Commerce members toured the Brazos Valley and observed cotton fields from 2700 acre plantation to several farms. Foremen forecast yields from three quarters to a bale per acre, with overall outlook mixed due to flea damage and varied bottom crop conditions from Hearne to Austin.

Through Bryan Chamber of Commerce aid agricul tural writers spent Thursday morning on a sixty mile autovide in the Brazos Valley. They viewed thirty miles of cotton farms along the river with large stalks and promising fruiting. The plant is about thirty days late but looks to yield a bale per acre on most bottom lands across an estimated 150 square miles.

A Devine News notice reports farmers from across the state and Oklahoma viewing crops from a Gulf inlet near Wells it advises Devine residents to sell cotton quickly as the state sees its largest acreage yet and a big crop last year.

More Than Five Hundred Hens In Laying Contest

Five hundred sixty hens including 112 entries from 16 states competed in the Texas National Egg Laying Contest at College Station. Eleven breeds were represented as results aim to indicate good average Texan hens. Over thirty days in June the flock laid more than 876 dozen eggs at 4.3 pounds feed per dozen. Income over feed cost was 24 cents per hen totaling $134.40 for all hens. Feed cost per hen for the month was 15 cents.

Absentee Voting Details For Local Election

Absentee voting by mail is available now through August 17 and in person August 18 to 24 at the clerk's office. Applications by mail are an option for those out of town on election day. County Clerk A Ss McSwain offers help at the proper time. Only one application returned so far. about 100 ballots were cast in the first primary, and turnout is expected to be lighter in the runoff.
