Cotton Queen Crowned At Texas State College Women Event

Cotton gives queen and king preside over a garden style pageant in Denton with Allan E. Bryant as king and Miss Matlock as queen. Dozens of maids of honor and duchesses from 70 Texas towns showcased new cotton outfits while Peter Molyneaux spoke on cotton’s role in Texas history.

Dallas Business leaders plan to attend Longview 1934 convention

Dallas business leaders including President J F Casey Daniel Russell and J Webb Howell plan to attend the Longview convention with Secretary J F E Stanford and Mrs Lee J Rountree on the program for opening day. Directors opposed House Bill 855 and will attend a hearing tonight. An East Texas Chamber of Commerce drive, a cleanup campaign, and educational legislative support are urged.

Garden Club assigns 109 members to school project

The Consolidated School Garden Club under Mrs. S. H. Yarnell's chairmanship has 109 members across grades 1 to 7. Students will plant gardens and compete for four awards based on specified work, plant size, condition, stand, variety, and cleanliness, judged in the third week of April.

Kemp High School Closes Health Week Activities

Final health meetings for National Negro Health Week were held at Kemp High School. Dr. S D Sealey and Mrs. Edna Abbott Shelton administered Typhoid vaccine doses to 22 students and 9 received a second dose. A rural schools picture show drew 425 attendees from 12 districts.

Delegates Named From Auxiliary To Legion Meet

Mrs. Ed Martin Mrs. Antone Krenek Mrs. Luke Patronella Mrs. M. M. Erskine and Mrs. Hy. T. Schovassa elected delegates from the American Legion Auxiliary to the district convention in Buffalo last weekend. Reports from committee chairmen followed. A. S. McSwain urged cooperation with the PTA in child welfare and the group voted to provide medical care for needy children. Julia Schovassa spoke on Girl Scout work and the need for a troop leader. Three visitors attended: Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Taylor of Groesbeck and Mrs. J. H. Bartz of Brenham. Erskine presided. Falgeau was secretary.
