Tennessee Valley Authority Created for Roosevelt Project

Senator Norris introduces a bill to carry out the Tennessee basin project and operate Muscle Shoals for power nitrate and fertilizer production. The measure creates a three member TVA appointed by the President and authorizes bonds to fund plant and dam construction. Chairman McSwain introduces a companion bill in the House.

Bryan pastors announce a week of pre Easter services at the First Methodist church. Rev Roy S Holloman will preach tonight for Woman's Missionary night. Knights Templar Easter Service Next Sunday at Bryan

The Ivanhoe Commandery No 4 Knights Templar will hold its Easter service at First Methodist church in Bryan Sunday at 4 o clock in full regalia with a ritualistic service led by P 8 Park and R A Harrison. Jewelry Stolen From Webb Home In Burglary

Mrs J Hi Webb and her daughter Mrs J Allen Myers Jr were away in Houston when jewelry including rings pins and brooches were stolen from the Webb home. The house showed no other damage and the telephone wire into the house had been cut. Police were alerted and a description of the stolen items was sent to neighboring cities.

No Cattle Ticks Found in County Since September

No cattle fever ticks have been found on Brazos county livestock since last September, according to Dr. W C Brown of the USDA tick eradication program. Daily 2000 to 2500 head are dipped. two more dippings planned for all stock in sixty days to prevent reinfestation. If no new infestation develops, government efforts may end after that period.

Funeral Services For Two Members At St. Anthony's

Two St. Anthony's Catholic Church members died in Bryan onThursday. Rev. Peter Valani conducted funeral services at ten o'clock Friday with interment in Bryan Catholic cemetery. John DeChaira aged 45 died Thursday night after an explosion injuries. He is survived by his widow and six children, four brothers and two sisters. Tony Nuche aged 65 died Thursday afternoon at his son Sam Nuche's home on Highway No. 6 after a brief illness. He is survived by his widow and three children, two daughters and a son, plus relatives in Brazos County.

Bryan Lawyer Delivers Edge High School Commencement Address

W. S. Barron, Bryan attorney, delivered the commencement address at Edge High School graduation in the school auditorium. School board members Charley Payne John Ry chlik and Frank Rosier were present with Payne issuing diplomas. Seven students graduated from high school and seven from seventh grade, all but two entering high school. Carlton Hibbetts is principal.

Woman Charged in Burned Home Arson Case

Leola Bosier of the Smetana neighborhood was jailed on Saturday charged with arson in the Friday night burning of Ida Lister's nearby house. Police say Bosier and Lister, both described as Negro, had prior quarrels and that further investigation is planned.

Bryan Winner Leads District Stock Judging Contests

Bryan Vocational Agriculture teams won first in the district stock judging at Sam Houston State Teachers College last Saturday. Melvin Dansby was top point person with teammates Watson and Gregg. Poultry team placed second in its first contest. Cummins was high point in poultry. Coaches Cyril Luker say both teams advance to the Smith Hughes judging contest at A M College on April 17.

Will File Suits To Collect Tax Owing to County

Brazos County Commissioners Court met in regular session to authorize the county tax collector to prepare data for suits against delinquent taxpayers up to January 1, 1932. Upon receipt of the data, the county attorney is ordered to file the suits. Sheriff Reed requested deputies Henry Koonts and Arch Smith. Petitions for opening two roads were received. one to be Edge Cut and to intersect Highway No. 21 was approved.

Burglars Ransack House On Saturday Evening

Two burglars entered the home of Mrs. J. B. Rochelle while the family was away and rifled closets and opened suitcases before fleeing. A 38 caliber revolver belonging to Mrs. Rochelle was taken, with no other property reported missing.

Funeral Service Held at Iola for Man Related Here

Mrs. E. W. Crenshaw and Mrs. E. W. Crenshaw Jr. attended the Iola service for Lewis Neeley, brother-in-law to Mrs. Crenshaw, who died in Houston. The 3 p.m. service was followed by burial in Zion cemetery led by Rev. Barnes. Survived by his wife and seven children.

Cotton Ball and Style Show Revue Draws 2000 At A&M

Two thousand or more filled the mess hall annex at Texas A and M College for the second annual Cotton Ball and Style Show Revue. The event ran from 7 15 p m to 2 a m with the Agronomy Society sponsoring and Prof J S Mogford as general chairman.

Seed Crop Loans Made in Five County District

In a five county district including Brazos, 2115 crop loans totaling 158 295 dollars were issued. Brazos county had 185 loans worth 14 295 dollars. Grimes 526 loans 40 645 dollars. Madison 224 loans 22 030 dollars. Robertson 774 loans 61 045 dollars. Average outside Brazos ranged 67.03 to 78.96 dollars. Last year Brazos had 91 loans at 93.21 dollars average. Grimes 213 loans at 82.11. Leon 130 loans at 68.02. Madison 137 loans at 83.28. Robertson 307 loans at 87.79. District total last year 878 loans 73 177 97 dollars. Borrowers urged to file crop loan applications before April 30 per Eric C. Brown, district loan supervisor, via Dallas regional office.

Funeral Service Held For Hearne Man James S. Henry

James S. Henry aged 77 died at his Hearne home after a short illness. Funeral services were held Saturday at 4 PM with interment in Hearne cemetery. Survivors include his widow three sons and one daughter all living in Hearne. Relatives from Brazos county attended the service. He was born in Brazos county in 1856 and lived near Hearne most of his life. The family once resided in the Tabor community. He married Clara La Fever of Tabor when young.

Four vats dynamited near Nacogdoches. three jailed

Three young men from the western part of Nacogdoches county were jailed today for dynamiting four dipping vats located about twenty miles from Nacogdoches. Four others were sought in connection with the incidents in the last ten days. one suspect escaped after a failed charge.

Dallas Business Men Visit Bryan for 1933 Etex Meet

A Dallas group arrives by train at 1:50 p m on Tuesday for a 40 minute stop in Bryan as part of a four city goodwill tour through East Texas. Bryan Brazos County Chamber of Commerce directors arrange welcomes with Bryan business men invited to meet visitors. The Entertainment committee and Allen Academy band will assist with the reception ahead of the East Texas Chamber convention.

City Bonds Bought At 80 Cents On Dollar

City Manager R. G. Williams announced savings for Bryan taxpayers through bond actions. Six bonds of $1,000 each with 5 percent interest were bought at 80 cents on the dollar to retire power plant bonds, reducing about $1,200 in face value plus interest.

The Bryan Woman's Club corrects its recent member list noting Mrs. W. E. Neeley was elected an associate member earlier this year and should have appeared among the seventeen new members for the past year. The omission was unintentional and clarified in the published report.

Break from Jail Attempt by Brazos Prisoners

Sheriff J H Reed stopped a jail escape plan as Ned Jones and Edward Thomas confined from Eastland worked to loosen bars. They broke a seat bar and hid debris under papers and a cot, aiming to escape through a widened window opening using a pipe.

The city commission orders Paige Street opened from Highway No 6 to East 29th Street extension. Grad ing has begun on part of the street and work will start immediately on the remaining section following numerous requests.

Kernole Shot by Negro Bandit Near Bryan Store

J C Kernole was wounded in the chest by a lone gunman two miles east of Bryan while standing in front of his store. The assailant, a stranger, demanded valuables and fired before fleeing. Kernole is reported in satisfactory condition at Wilkerson Memorial Clinic.

Progress on Highway 21 pavement advances near Bryan

About one and a half miles of concrete laid on Highway No. 21 west of Bryan with good weather for faster progress. After this section is finished, work will begin on Highway No. 6 between Bryan and College.

Much Food Given To Brazos Needy Through Red Cross

The Brazos County Red Cross executive committee met at City Hall with Chairman C. M. Bethany presiding. They reported the fourth flour shipment for the needy, 3410 yards of cotton fabric made into 1347 garments, and 1704 ready made items distributed. New veterans compensation rules offer a 20 percent rate reduction. donations from Bryan and College Station residents were gratefully acknowledged.

Future Farmers Plan for Picnic Thursday Night

The Bryan chapter of the Future Farmers of America voted at a Monday meeting at Stephen F. Austin high school to host a wiener roast with members of the home economics department and classes, with 45 guests on Thursday, April 20. Albert Slowey chaired the planning committee assisted by Harvey D. Watson and Frank Merka. The event will be funded from the organization treasury. The meeting also covered the Father and Son Banquet report by B. D. Foster. Twenty four members attended.

First 1933 Rodeo for Bryan April 28

The first annual Bryan rodeo will be held at Forrest Field on April 28 and 29 with Will Locke Eddie Cameron and Virgil Stapp in charge. Events include bulldogging riding wild steers and horses as part of a first class show to become a popular annual city event.

Library Loses Typewriter to Alleged Repaired Theft

Miss Willie Rogers, Carnegie Library librarian, reports two men registered at a local hotel as Clemons and Harris took and removed a Underwood typewriter numbered 4 B 148354 on the morning of April 6 for repair, leaving Bryan without it. One man is described as middle aged and stout in a light suit. the other as about 25, six feet tall, slender, in a light brown suit.

Bryan Lions Club plans a county Easter egg hunt on a Saturday afternoon for about 4000 rainbow eggs. Adults will divide participants into four age groups with 75 prize eggs to be hidden under Sankey Park supervision. Time and exact site to be announced next week.
