Herreshoff to Build 70 Foot Steel Defender for Cup Race

Bristol Sept 5 A 70 foot all steel keel type sloop will be built at the Herreshoff yards as a defender candidate for the America Cup race with Sir Thomas Lipton's challenger next September. Nat Herreshoff announced after returning from New York where he conferred with New York Yacht Club officials. The owner or owners’ group is unnamed. Construction will follow the 70 foot class one design lineage used in 1909 for Yankee Rainbow Virginia and Mineola. Expected launch is May with work starting this fall or early winter.

Wife vanishes with two children in North Reading case

The missing 20 year old wife of farmer Arthur Winters left with her two young sons for a day and later sent letters from Boston suggesting suicide.
