The wife testified that during 17 12 years as an L motorman he bought two suits and an overcoat, took her to Nan tasket and Revere Beach, saved $300, and invested in a $2000 mortgage with a cooperative society. Household expenses stayed low and rent costs reduced.
Patrick J Smyth of 31 Chipman Street Dorchester is cited in a local item labeled LL. The fragment suggests a neighborhood or civic note involving Smyth in early 20th century records.
An automobile carrying Oscar T. Williams and Alice M. Lewis of Providence crashed through Union bridge rail near Ashland New Hampshire. The car fell 100 feet into the Pemigewassett River. Miss Lewis was crushed to death beneath the inverted vehicle. Williams was severely injured.
He allowed his family of six five or six pounds of meat weekly. Through a friend he bought a yearly coal supply on trust when coal was cheapest. Much clothing came from worn garments of distant relatives. He grew vegetables behind his house and kept living costs at the lowest possible point.

J P Morgan & Co notified New Haven, Boston & Maine and Maine Central of 90 day terminations as bankers, with Morgan acting as financial agent for the latter two subsidiaries.
Miss Katherine Weeks, visiting friends on the Cape, had appendicitis and underwent surgery at Newton Hospital near midnight. The operation was reported successful and she was expected to recover. She is the daughter of U S Senator John W Weeks of Newton. telegrams were sent to Washington and he departed for Boston.
Ghent Belgium Sept 5 The permanent committee of Mutual Insurance Associations led by Jean Bourgeois former French premier accepted President Wilson’s invitation to hold its 1915 congress in the United States.
A large blaze in Hot Springs Ark devastated the eastern business district. By 10 o clock, more than 30 blocks were swept clean, leaving extensive destruction and emergency response efforts underway. The fire threatened nearby structures and prompted proactive evacuations as crews fought the flames.
Jerome Travers William is in Vermont and will not attend his Quebec hearing on gambling charges. He plans to go to Montreal to aid Thaw’s lawyers in opposing bail.
