Saved by His Lawyers While Jerome Slips Over Border After Arrest

This morning at a hotel Jerome was arrested on a gambling on railroad property warrant and jailed. Crowds gathered outside the jail cheering or jeering as the prisoner was moved to a dim cell. Attorney Marechal secured bail after magistrates were unavailable, with a hearing set for tomorrow at 9. The immigration hearing adjourned at 1 and then the board met at four to issue deportation to Vermont for entry through Canada while on an insane list within five years. An appeal stay and writ from Montreal delayed final action as Thaw counsel sought relief.
