Fiendish lynching of Porter at the stake in Colorado
In Limón Colorado on November 16 Preston Porter Jr. known as John Porter was burned alive for the murder of 11 year old Louise Frost. About 300 vigilantes oversaw the brutal act at a railroad stake with chains and fuel. The father Richard Frost lit the fire after Porter prayed and begged to be shot. Porter and his family had been recently released from the Kansas reform school. The mob arrived from Hugo and surrounding areas while Porter read the Gospel before execution. Notices warned blacks to leave Lincoln and Albert counties as railroad officials were urged to remove colored workers.
