In front of about 500 spectators at Rocky Point Warwick Rhode Island William Armour aged 40 of Pawtucket drowned while three companions were rescued by volunteers. The group had been in a small rowboat en route to a motor boat when two men attempted to change positions causing capsizing Armour was recovered but two others survived and one more man died.

Elmer Baker, 35, an Olneyville engineer, called his wife from the Allendale mills and opened fire. He fired five shots, wounded her twice, then killed himself with two shots to the chest. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and not expected to live.
