Murphy says the ceremony will be by her parish priest and will not be kept secret though an obstacle remains and Wren's affairs must be winded up before any wedding.

In Derry New Hampshire milk from cows tested for tuberculosis was drawn in sterilized pails sealed in sterilized bottles and certified. The company reports the total quantity sold amounts to less than 1 percent of all milk delivered.

Hamlin Sets Conditions for Treasury Post Offer

The Hon. Charles S. Hamlin will consider the assistant secretary of the treasury only if the offer is presented as a duty to the Democratic party. He previously declined the collector of the port post and reiterated his stance after Washington signaled possible appointment. Hamlin, a former assistant secretary under President Cleveland, is sought for his tariff expertise.

Land swindle over waterlogged Martha's Vineyard parcels

Henry Angle of Providence faced larceny charges in Brockton after selling 10 deeds for land claimed near Martha's Vineyard that lay underwater a mile and a half offshore. Angle pleaded not guilty and said he never saw the land, while Horace Tinkham and Margaret Maynard stated they paid him $2 each for the deeds. He argued the law did not require recording and that he was in Brockton last November giving away land with every $5 department store purchase. The case was continued to July 25.

Judge Bars Dow $200000 Suit Against Hornblower Weeks

Judge Braley of the Supreme Judicial Court issued a memorandum ruling that Hornblower & Weeks must not pay further losses to Richard S. Dow. The ruling enjoins Dow from continuing his $200,000 suit, finding a general release covered both preferred and common stock. Dow had been paid $30 a share after losses on 2200 preferred and 1100 common shares.

Girls Scared by Big Rat At Winthrop Building

A fat rat, larger than a kitten, caused about 30 minutes of excitement near the Winthrop building on Washington Street. Women and children fled to doorways as the creature moved along a ridge above the first floor. It was killed when a passing City Point car ran over it, startling the crowd before tumbling down.

London July 19. The Bulgarian queen Eleonore sent a telegram to Queen Elizabeth of Roumania requesting halting Roumanian advances into Bulgaria. Queen Elizabeth responded that Roumanian troops would continue the advance, but with the greatest consideration.

Telegrams report Roumanian Greek and German forces may march on Sofia to force peace terms. Bucharest dispatch says Roumanians may advance but not yet decide to occupy Sofia. King Charles’ reply to Bulgaria hints peace with Roumania Servia and Greece. A Servian official says Bulgaria massed between Kustendill and Dubnitza about 40 miles south of Sofia awaiting a possible allied advance.

Punch and Judy Shows by City to Run This Summer

Boston officials under Mayor Fitzgerald closed a contract with Frank Prior to perform free Punch and Judy shows on city playgrounds for the rest of the summer. The mayor says the shows provide innocent fun and justify the expense for local children after Tuesday next.
