Search Burned Steamer's Hold for Missing Men

Fire aboard the City of Bangor at Foster's wharf sent rescue efforts into a rush. Louis Stickle and Representative Lewis Sullivan were among those saving others as boats, tugs, and police aided in pulling crew from the burning steamer. Several men are missing, and divers searched the forecastle while a dozen workers escaped into the harbor. The blaze started in the forepeak and quickly consumed the vessel, which had arrived from Bath and Maine ports and was to sail at 6 o'clock with passengers.

Bitter discussion on Bryan lectures in Senate debate

Senators Bristow Townsend Fall and others attacked Secretary Bryan for delivering paid lectures while public questions demanded his attention at the State Department. Raids Continue in Revere Boulevard Liquor Crackdown

Metropolitan police under Sergeant Maurice Finn conducted two liquor raids late last night in Revere Boulevard area. At 276 Boulevard Mrs Mary Holland premises yielded 43 bottles of lager beer and at 291 Boulevard Howard Slennan premises produced 45 bottles of ale plus a quart of whiskey. Police acted without local officer involvement aiming to clean up liquor in the boulevard district.

Fort Wagner Day Observed by Massachusetts Colored Troops

Veterans of the 54th and 55th Massachusetts Volunteers gathered to mark the sixth anniversary of the Fort Wagner battle. Speakers honored the colored troops and ceremonies moved from Jamaica Plain to Doric Hall at the State House and to the Shaw Memorial on Beacon Street. A resolution urged Connecticut to pardon Jefferson Ellis, life prisoner since 1879 for killing Louis Fairchild.

Rescue at Waltham: Local Hero Saves Two From River

Joseph Hackett, 18, swam from the river bank behind the Metz factory to rescue two non swimming boys, 13-year-old John Reilly and 14-year-old James Keating, who fell from a boat in a dangerous cove with thick grass and lily pools. He brought them to safety after they lost balance.

Twin calves born to cow at Wakefield town farm

A Jersey cow at Wakefield town farm gave birth to twin calves, both heifers, on Thursday. The birth marks a historic first for the town and surrounding areas, with the calves and mother reported as thriving.
