Guard Samuel Richards Rescues Girl From Lake During Exhibition
Samuel Richards, a guard, plunged into the pond and pulled an unconscious girl from the bottom of the lake. It took half an hour to revive her, and she later competed in an evening event. Miss Wood led part of the 440 yard dash before sinking. Marion Gibson won the race with her sister Gertrude finishing second. John Bradley won the fancy diving contest for men. Frank Lynde gave diving exhibitions and escaped handcuffs underwater.

Rescuers Save Four From Capsized Catboat Ethelyn
Four persons were rescued from the capsized catboat Ethelyn near the South Boston Yacht Club pier late last night. One crew member remained unaccounted for at early morning. Mrs. Elizabeth Gilmore, the last removed from the craft, was underwater in the cabin for some time but is believed to recover.

July 4 Pittsfield report: John Jaynes 30, of Lee, dies at Hillcrest Hospital from severe burns suffered in a gasoline explosion at Lee around 1 am. Employee of Mountain Mills Paper Company, Jaynes was burned all over. colleague Martin Hussey also badly burned, both men working to fill a tank when fuel ignited.

Three Horses Burned In Cambridge Fire
A rear barn at 32 Andrews Street Cambridge burned with three horses perishing. A second barn at 119 Pleasant Street caught fire and three nearby houses at 18 20 and 32 Andrews Street were intermittently set aflame by sparks. Fire lasted about two hours causing roughly 2500 in damage. Max White owner of 408 Columbia Street. Fire started about 8 30 p m from an unknown cause. William Barber alerted the blaze and attempted rescues but was forced from the stable by smoke and flames, saving one team.
