Xmas Mail Sets Record in Foreign Money Orders
New York reports a record Christmas money order total from foreigners in the city with 496.49 orders worth $7.775 million sent home. Britain received about $2 million, Italy $1.887 million, Russia nearly $800 thousand, and 16 other countries share the rest. Liberia had the smallest amount. Rampolla's Body Lies In Chapel At Vatican Palace
Rome December 17 The body of Cardinal Rampolla lies in the palace drawing room transformed into a chapel rdente. Red drapes oil paintings and a small altar accompany the bier. A black cloth with silver fringes covers the body while a terra cotta group of St Peter's boat stands nearby. Funeral services will be at St Peter's. Cardinals and Vatican ecclesiastics plus diplomatic representatives viewed the body this afternoon.

Rampolla Dies Quietly After Angina In Rome

Ammunition Hidden Under Anchor Chain Seized
Ten thousand revolver cartridges were found hidden under the anchor chain of the steamer Allemania in New York. Inspectors believe the ammunition was loaded there for use in Hayti, with earlier similar shipments also seized from ships bound for the West Indies.

Insurance firm appeals death award for Natick widow
The Fidelity & Deposit Company of Maryland filed an appeal from the Industrial Accident Board ruling that Bridget Burns of Natick is to receive about $2000 for the death of her husband John J. Burns from a staged collapse at an icehouse in Wellesley. Burns died from blood poisoning after the injury. William Coulton, Burns' employer, was insured by the company which contests the board's decision.

Council delays Thompson probate judge confirmation
