Amid mayoral turmoil Andrew Kenny attacks Congressman Curley calling him unscrupulous. Mayor Fitzgerald's withdrawal leaves Kenny leading elements of the administration, while chieftains split among Kenny Kelcher Curley and Murphy. Acting Mayor Kenny favored by reform wing. threat of large faction split looms.
Frank B. Severance and Florence Severance split last June after a divorce and vowed to wed wealthy elders in time. Charles Jenkins, 75, a wealthy real estate dealer at 73 Tremont Street, filed intent to marry Mrs Severance, who lives with her 14 year old daughter, Dorothy Severance, at 360 Massachusetts Avenue.
Mrs Severance and her estranged husband agreed to a divorce after 30 years of marriage. She mortgaged her home at 25 Rutland Square and met Jenkins, who holds the mortgage. Jenkins, 40 years married to his late wife, plans no definite wedding date. Severance expressed surprise and good wishes. Mrs Severance and her daughter could not be reached.
Raymond Harroun Jr aged 10 son of Raymond Harroun winner of the first 500 mile race at Indianapolis motor speedway died of internal injuries after being struck by a car last night in Indianapolis. Police investigated but the chauffeur was not arrested.
Charles Edward Brickley of Everett was elected captain of the Harvard football team for 1914 with a unanimous vote of the 18 players who played this year. His career at Harvard is praised for his backfield prowess and dropkicking fame.
Brockton December 18 Charles Mallane 76 a Lynn resident arrived to visit his married daughter and son in Brockton and was struck with aphasia unable to recall his own name or his children's names. Police located his identity from papers and returned him to Lynn after failed efforts to reach his relatives.
James W. Prindle Jr., 19, suspected as Boston area axe man, was arrested by Somerville police at his sister's home with his 17 year old girlfriend. Fingerprint matches from Somerville break ins linked to Prindle, who reportedly confessed to two robberies but denied others.
Police investigated a daylight robbery at Nelson Beckwiths residence at 96 Ossipee Road Somerville. Finger marks on a window sill were photographed and sent to the bureau for analysis.
A border clash two miles west of Presidio Texas left Luis Orozco a Mexican federal regular dead. The two Mexicans crossed into the U S with a note and opened fire when halted by American sentries. One Mexican was killed as they fled toward the river while the other kept firing.
United States army headquarters issued an immediate warning after reports of border gunfire. Witnesses said American soldiers were informed that federal troops were hidden nearby and the incident should not be repeated.
Dr Henry R Heybecker aged 54 a Harvard graduate who claimed to be a Boston physician was arrested days ago by Police Inspectors Smith and Concannon on cocaine and morphine possession charges. Judge Cohen in municipal court gave him a suspended one month sentence on the condition he return to New York where he says he belongs. He was found begging on the streets.
The United States Court of Appeals ruled in favor of D. F. Loewe & Co. against the United Hatters of North America in the Danbury hatters case. The decision, reported from New York, carries substantial damages noted at twenty two thousand dollars. Continued on page 11-4th column.
The Sunset Limited runs daily with no extra fare via the Washington Sunset route. A new train schedule from November 14 to 20 promises faster service in tourist car accommodations. Station notes refer to Milk and Washington streets as contact points.
Three messengers testified at Public Service Commission hearings that the New Haven railroad through counsel Arthur P. Russell’s office ran poker games at the Adams House with Legislature members as a subterfuge for bribery. The lawmakers won heavily, suggesting the games were not purely by chance. The claims surfaced while former District Attorney Arthur D. Hill questioned witnesses. one messenger, Henry F. Bowden, declined to answer, invoking constitutional protection against self incrimination.
At an afternoon session Donald C. MacDonald treasurer of Practical Politics testified he received 110 dollars for extra copies from New Haven during five months in 1923 and 115 dollars in various sums for bulletin service advertising and biographical sketches of lawmakers. He said payments ceased after a change in administration. Continued on Page 7 Third Column.
