Coroner's jury finds justifiable homicide in Barrandes slaying

New York dated report says William F. Cuff was acquitted for the slaying of Joseph Barrandes on August 4 as he tried to assault Mary Burns a telephone operator. Cuff, a stranger to Burns, intervened after her cries. Barrandes died from a fractured skull. The jury ruled the act justifiable homicide.

Two Killed and Five Injured in Pittsfield Auto Crash

Albert Williams and David Garvin both of Pittsfield died when the car carrying seven people overturned while descending Jacob's Ladder near Jacob's Well during a trip to an Elk's clambake in Springfield. Williams and Garvin died within an hour. Carty Doyle Murphy Devanny Cullen Cullen all from Pittsfield sustained nonfatal or nonlethal injuries. Williams served as a chauffeur and Garvin was a Pittsfield police officer.
