In Sherbrooke Quebec Aug 28 Thaw parents lawyers report progress as William Travers Jerome’s trip to see Sir Lomer Gouin premier and attorney general failed to sway authorities. Thaw remains jailed and protected from immigration officials as legal filing continues.
Jerome heads the New York State forces aiming to compel Thaw's return to Matteawan, accompanied by Deputy Attorney General Franklin Kennedy as the team moves to secure custody.
Curtis Delano 23, of Newton, elopes with Dorothea Strunz to Cincinnati after a July 26 ceremony in Concord New Hampshire. He serves aboard the battleship Delaware and is a Newton High and Cornell graduate. The couple’s future status remains uncertain as Delano stays with the Navy in Boston while Strunz returns to Cincinnati.
Mathias J. Nesdale of the Carmen's Union testified at Ford Hall that Boston Elevated Railway lines now generate nearly triple the income they did 11 years ago. He cited a conductor's report showing seven Roxbury Crossing East Boston ferry trips in 1902 netted $21.95, while he claimed the same trips today yield about $60.
Aug 28 in Vera Cruz reports General Huerta has notified Mr Lind that his government will renew conferences and is disposed to accept President Wilsons terms to secure peace and future recognition. Conservative Mexicans express hope Huerta will adhere to this decision.

A blaze broke out in the hotel annex on Kneeland street where 100 women employees sleep. Miss Mary Gavin raised the alarm, and the five story building quickly filled with nightgowned workers fleeing the flames through halls and stairways.
At 12 10 am a fire in the liner room of the Essex Hotel annex caused heavy smoke trapping women on the upper floors. Miss Gavin raised the alarm from the fifth floor and the fire department quickly extinguished the blaze. damage was mainly to linen with minor building harm.

Francisco Zegarra Ballon of Peru is killed at Camp Perry when Juan E. Zegarra unknowingly fires a loaded rifle at Ballon’s tent pole. The incident occurred as Zegarra pretended to fire at the pole. Ballon dies instantly as the Massachusetts rifle team climbs to ninth place after the 600-yard events.
Edward P. Osborne longtime Neponset station master and New Haven road veteran dies at home after a surgical operation. He lived at 6 Neponset Avenue and is survived by his wife. Funeral set for 2:30 PM Saturday at his residence with burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
In the American circuit Boston defeated Washington 1 0 while Philadelphia overwhelmed New York 9 3. National league action saw Brooklyn beat Boston 5 1 and Philadelphia take New York 7 2. More on pages S 10 and 11.
