Miss Charlotte Fairfield of Salem owner of Fairfield dock has filed a fifth suit against the city after the Supreme Court overruled the city's exceptions in earlier cases. She has netted $23 380 27 through verdicts in two suits.

Miss Fairfield and the Philadelphia Vessel at the City Docks

In 1901 Miss Fairfield fought thecity over a shallow sewer near coal pockets that trapped ships. A large vessel, the G A Beecham of Philadelphia, ran aground on a bar. She sued the city after dredging costs and claimed damages totaling over 18 thousand dollars, with prior verdicts of 4 thousand plus and 90 dollars. The Supreme Court ruled in her favor in January, and she planned a fifth suit. she inherited the docks from her father, James Fairfield.

Vacation periods set for police department staff

Salem court hears libel suit over alienated marriage
