Strike Breakers Reach Hopedale

Milford reports 30 strike breakers arriving in Hopedale to join the Draper mills dispute. A one day sympathetic strike by I W W members and sympathizers is planned for the coming week. Additionally a hundred strikers from Milford are being sent to other cities where work has been secured.

Eben Draper met with Police Commissioner O'Meara in Boston where they discussed the strike but no plans were formulated. O'Meara said no further officers would be sent, and the workers' exodus continued.

King Alfonso Narrowly Escapes Anarchist Shooting

Madrid April 13. For the third time in his reign King Alfonso narrowly escaped an anarchist attack today. Three shots were fired in the capital by Rafael Sanchez Allegro of Barcelona who was immediately overpowered by bystanders and arrested.

The Spanish king escaped a shot when a would be assassin seized his bridle on Calle de Alcala after a recruits ceremony. The horse reared and the bullet hit the horse’s neck. a secret service man stopped the attacker as staff and police restrained him. The king saluted the crowd and assured his staff it was nothing.

Friedmann Seeks License for Tuberculosis Vaccine

Washington April 13 Surgeon General Blue told Dr Friedrich Franz Friedmann that a license to sell his tuberculosis vaccine cannot be issued until the exact nature of the vaccine and the method of its preparation are disclosed and official tests substantiate the claims. Friedmann plans a public clinic at George Washington University Hospital and will treat patients, focusing on children with hip joint TB, before leaving for Providence to continue work. He expects to call at the White House and hosted at a luncheon by the Swedish minister.
