Freight Strikers Tie Up Grand Trunk Liner

Freight laborers at the Grand Trunk sheds in Portland strike for higher wages. About 150 men demand $2 a day for day work and 36 cents an hour at night, up from $1.75 and 25 cents. By afternoon the number of strikers rose to 180. Montreal officials were informed and a quick adjustment is expected as the Hamburg sailing of the Frankfort from Canada line was canceled.

Prisoner Hitches Escape Try at Bowes Wharf Cell

Charles F. Hickey, held at City Hall Avenue station for robbing a telephone coin box at Bowes Wharf, tried to escape yesterday morning by removing bricks and a grate from his cell wall before the attempt was discovered.

Boston prison break attempt ends with new charge

Hickey, using a tin cup handle sharpened to a tool, scraped mortar and loosened bricks to escape a cell. Sergeant Horton heard the effort, found Hickey in possession of the tool, and he is charged with malicious destruction of city property and faces court. Investigators also found an attempted exit via a ventilating flue torn from its fastenings.

Savage timber wolf captured after hours in Boston lumber yard

Six Adams Express workers and volunteers hunted a full grown timber wolf roped and caged under a Cambridge street lumber shed near Broadway extension. After three hours at bay the wolf was captured, then escaped from a box cage and hunted again before recapture. The animal, identified as Siberian strain, was later claimed in Lynn by Professor Wilson.

Man hit by Express Co wagon on School Street

James Jones aged 64 of 501 Shawmut Avenue was struck by an American Express Company wagon driven by Patrick Cronin on School Street near Washington yesterday afternoon. He suffered a fractured right leg and multiple bruises and was taken to Relief Hospital for treatment.

Sailors to Be Buried From Roxbury Church

Cornelius O Leary first class fireman on the battleship Ohio died from illness contracted in service five months ago. He will be buried from the Mission Church Roxbury tomorrow with a military escort from the U S S New Jersey and a three volley salute at New Calvary Cemetery.
