Taxpayers urged to form state association in Lansing
Senator George McCallum of Ann Arbor proposed a statewide taxpayers association to unite smaller groups aiming at tax reduction and cutting government waste. Critics warn such a body would be dominated by real estate interests behind the mill tax amendment. Some legislators favor tying budget and revenue bills so expenditures and funds balance, arguing this linkage could solve Michigan’s fiscal woes.
