Through June 1 shipments from the Gogebic range reached 352 080 tons, up from 96 150 tons in 1938. Leading shippers were Pickands Mather Co Oglebay Norton Co and Oliver Iron Mining. Lake Superior district iron ore totals to June 1 1939 reached 3 658 251 gross tons, with prior dates 1 441 217 in 1938 and 13 814 411 in 1937.

Isaac Luoma Dies After Illness at 41
Isaac Elias Luoma, 41, died Sunday night at Grand View hospital from complications after appendicitis. He lived in Wakefield and Ramsay before moving to Bessemer 11 years ago and managed Puritanatore. Born in Finland March 17, 1898, he came to the United States in 1914 and was survived by his wife Julia Frederickson and a son Roy, plus a brother Eli in California, his mother, and another brother in Finland. Funeral held at St. Pauls Finnish church with Rev. Herman Matero officiating. Luoma belonged to Runeberg lodge.

Resume Towing Of Log Rafts On Lake Superior
The Newaygo Tug Line resumed transporting Ontario pulpwood logs by rafts down Lake Superior from the north shore to Ashland Wisconsin and Munising Michigan. A 6000 cord raft arrived May 28 at Ashland and will be loaded onto railcars for Consolidated Water Power & Paper Co. mills in eastern Wisconsin. The Butterfield tug, largest on the lake, tows peeled logs toward the Fox River valley with further rafts expected in July.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Matt Hill of Ramsay at the Finnish Lutheran church in Wakefield. Burial followed in Bessemer cemetery with pallbearers Jacob Heikkinen Mauno Maki Anselm Mattila Matt Nikkari John Pulomaki and Oscar Wertauer. Mrs. Hill died June 7 after a stroke age 62. she lived in Ramsay 27 years and is survived by her husband and one son Eric Lundgren.
