Lunch and camaraderie mark Bessemer club gathering

Last Sunday Chef Fred die Crenna and assistant Johnny Brus hosted twenty of Bessemer’s heaviest eaters. The meal featured barbecued pork, dressing, potatoes and salad as members teased and toasted each other. A light program with Chippy Baratone on the concertina and a playful remark on overeating punctuated the afternoon, which ended with a singalong duet. An inflation note recalls a 1921 smokestack dismantling cost.

Why are Mothers-in-Law So Feared in Early Marriages

In ancient marriage by capture mothers reacted with rage and urged kin retaliation against the kidnapper’s tribe. Even after brides were bought, the mother’s anger remained a public display and she was rarely pleasant at the newlyweds’ home. Across primitive societies mothers-in-law were considered taboo and continue to hold that reputation.
