Anton Wysoski and Dante Pricco won city elections in Bessemer. Wysoski secured a full term on the school board by 622 to 596 over Mamie Rice, a 26 vote margin. Pricco beat Edmond Rodd 664 to 541 for the three year unexpired term. Sixty percent turnout. Honor roll lists dozens of students across grades with A and Honor Roll designations.

Hugo A Stone Dies At Divine Infant Hospital
Hugo Alexander Stone age 64 died at Divine Infant Hospital after illness. Born in Malos Vaasa Finland March 7 1893 he came to the United States in 1902. He worked in mining and utilities and retired from Bessemer Light Utility in 1943. A WWI veteran he served in the Third Infantry division as a bugler and belonged to the County Seat Post VFW. He is survived by a brother and two sisters.

Plans Made For Fourth Of July Celebration
Tentative plans for the Fourth of July celebration were laid by the Bessemer Chamber of Commerce with youth races and contests led by the Lions club, a Youth Parade by school groups, a Little League exhibit, a Drum and Bugle corps exhibition, and a fireworks display. Two UM archaeologists study Michigan Old Copper culture
Albert C. Spaulding and Mark Papworth travel to the Upper Peninsula to study the Old Copper culture believed to be among the world’s first copper miners. They will spend a month at Menominee and a week at Isle Royale under university sponsorship, dating tools, graves, and practices to uncover how this early culture mined and worked copper and why it disappeared.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For M. Vaselak
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 9 a m for Mike Vaselak late resident of Royal Oak Michigan who died Friday morning. He had lived with his daughter Dorothy Olson for 11 years and had been in failing health since September. Born in Bohemia February 1 1885 he migrated to the United States in 1885 as an early pioneer. He worked in lumber mining and later maintenance for schools. He was a member of the Sebastian Church of Bessemer and the Bohemian Fraternal lodge. Survived by one son Joseph A Vaselak four daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He married Anna Smejaci in 1890 who preceded him in death in 1946.
