Fourth of July memories and Georgia progress
In Georgia rural life the Fourth of July is recalled with fond regard for old carts, wagons, and ferries now replaced by good roads and modern travel. The piece contrasts past hardships with today’s comforts, comments on politics, manners, and the role of women, and praises roads, bridges, and changing social norms shaping a brighter Georgia. It also outlines the first annual meeting program for the Georgia Baptist Assembly at Blue Ridge, August 8–23, detailing speakers, activities, and participating groups from across the state.
