Avon mall stabbing ends with officer’s quick response

Avon Minn police say Officer Jason Falconer confronted a knife attacker at Crossroads Center, saving shoppers. Chief Corey Nellis praised Falconer, a part time officer and firearms instructor, whose actions likely prevented further harm as nine victims were stabbed. A witness recalled diving to the floor and thanking Falconer for risking his life.

Pawpaw Festival Grows With New Varieties and Attendees

The 18th annual Pawpaw Festival in Southeast Ohio drew judges for a Best Pawpaw competition featuring new cultivars. Visitors from Loveland Colorado and Holland traveled far while activities included a Renewable Energy Regatta and a large cardboard sculpture attempt. Local organizers credit Albany roots and the event’s expansion to wider pawpaw interest.

Largest Cardboard Chateau Sets New Tower Height Record

OU Campus Recycling volunteers built a towering cardboard chateau on campus reaching 18.4 feet, besting a 14 foot previous mark. Four towers totaled 49.9 by 53.3 feet using more than 17 000 boxes. donations supported Rural Action and local schools, with all material recycled afterward.

Ohio gas prices rise to start workweek

Ohio gas prices edge higher from last week but remain below last month. The statewide regular price averaged 2.17 per gallon in Monday’s AAA Oil Price Information Service and WEX survey, up from 2.07 a week earlier. Last month it was 2.19 and a year ago 2.31. National average stood around 2.21, up from 2.18 a week earlier and 2.14 last month. The national figure was 2.30 a year ago.
