April Report Shows Low Forest Fire Activity in Ohio
The District fire control section of the Ohio division of forestry reports six fires in April burning 12 acres. The largest blaze in Washington County covered four acres and may be linked to a careless smoker. Since March 1, the spring fire season has 35 fires totaling 103 acres, with fires averaging three acres this year rather than seven to ten. Officials credit intermittent rain and citizen vigilance for the drop and urge continued reporting as May ends the season.
