The Plains volunteers battled a Friday afternoon house fire at 93 North Plains Road. Responders found the abandoned dwelling fully engulfed upon arrival and worked to extinguish the blaze.
William DeWeese, former program manager of the National Ranger Training Institute, sues Hocking College in Athens County Common Pleas Court alleging his 2014 job elimination and a public records request dispute. He says three armed officers escorted him from the Nelsonville campus as he was placed on paid leave amid an ongoing internal investigation.
Ohio University President Roderick McDavis will retire at end of current contract in June 2017. The Board of Trustees plans a year end or early 2017 selection, with an executive committee subcommittee leading the search and a larger committee including students faculty staff alumni and other stakeholders to be formed. The nine year term limit affects board chair Sandra Anderson who will aid the search and future use of 29 Park Place as a nonresidential property awaiting a decision.
