Taxi Cab Issue Before Pomeroy Council Again
Mayor George Howell faced taxi operators seeking to block new license limits in Pomeroy. Operators claimed licenses were granted to war plant workers, while the mayor noted law allows license eligibility and recalled past favoritism. Ross Evans testified he pays 100 dollars monthly for a waiting room and staff and had applied for licenses as per a 1940 ordinance. The council approved proceeding with tax and road resurfacing costs and planned a flood-road project with Middleport and county officials.
