Lawrence A. Hackney, 17, of Hamilton, died after falling 30 feet through a soft spot in asbestos roofing at an industrial plant near Trenton while working with his father, a sheet metal and roofing contractor. He died in a Middletown hospital.
General Jacob S. Coxey, long-time monetary reform advocate, declares he will set up headquarters in Washington next month to push his International Currency Plan. He warns that passage of the bill would avert a third Coxey March to Washington after his two prior marches in 1894 and 1914.

Chiang Kai Shek demands responsibility from Chinese communist leaders to settle internal issues peacefully. He sent an urgent message to Mao Zedong in Yenan urging reconsideration of talks in Chungking and refused Chu Teh's call to participate in surrender arrangements.
New York reports the 13th Airborne Division expected to clear Le Havre today en route to the United States. Units arriving on the East Coast include elements of the 30th Infantry Division aboard the Queen Mary and several air service groups and squadrons from the Pacific. Newport News and additional ships host thousands of troops, with the millionth soldier to leave Germany since V-E Day boarding yesterday.
