Adams law Protects Georgia farmers from unreliable labor
Eatonton Georgia May 1 The Adams bill named for Representative George Adams of Putnam now senator elect is touted as the simplest and most effective solution to farm labor problems. It makes it a misdemeanor to contract for labor with intent to steal money or value and not perform the service, with the burden of proof on the contracting party. The law targets cheats while excluding tenants. It notes peonage decisions do not conflict and credits the act with improving farmer control of labor alongside Georgia contract and vagrancy laws.
