The Alabama Press Association's executive committee removes Secretary Rountree, a move seen as unwarranted by supporters. Rountree is suspended until the next annual meeting, triggering bitter debate among members and a hard fought fight to secure fair treatment.
An Indianapolis era notice reports W H Brown of Leesville was saved from death by Dr Kings New Discovery for Consumption. He says it relieved severe asthma pain and led to a complete cure. The ad touts cures for consumption pneumonia bronchitis and grip with a $1.00 guarantee by local druggists.
At the Oxford armory a company of United Sons of Confederate Veterans was organized with Chancellor R. B. Kelley and Prof. C. J. Owens of Anniston aiding. Samuel Kelley camp namesake honored for two wars. 21 initial members, expected to exceed 100. Officers elected include Whiteside as commander, Bell as first vice, Smith as second vice, with Marion Kelley sponsoring. Next meeting in December. Delegates elected for Birmingham reunion: D. H. T A Ray of seven miles from Anniston was fined five dollars in police court for placing a bell on his cow to locate it. The cow was charged five dollars plus pound fees totaling 10.25 dollars. mayor Henderson remitted the fines since Ray lived in the country. Ray bought the cow in Anniston and took her home but she wandered back, prompting the arrest by Officer Sheid in a case described as peculiar.
