Federal Court Opens First Session in City
The eastern division of the northern district of Alabama held its first session at 2 p.m. in the county circuit court room. Judge Toulmin of Mobile presided with District Attorney Roulhac, Assistant D A Steela, Clerk Allison of Birmingham, Deputy Clerk Greenleaf of Huntsville and Marshal D N Cooper of Birmingham present. Grand and petit juries were empaneled and instructed, beginning criminal trials.

Rome Accommodation Collides With Freight Train In Morning Crash
The Rome and Childersburg passenger train known as the Dade collided with a standing freight near Oxford after entering the rear of the freight. The passenger engine pilot was killed and a rear freight car derailed. No injuries reported as passengers survived. Engineer leapt to escape. Traffic halted about two hours.

Nesbitt Slain by Henry Johnston at Second Street Home
Henry Johnston killed Ed Nesbitt with an iron bar at Nesbitt’s South Anniston residence on Second Street Saturday night around 7. The fatal blow crushed Nesbitt’s skull as he sat by the fireside. Johnston fled after the assault and remained away until the next morning. His wife later reported the killing. Johnston escaped and has not been captured.
