Rhythm Kings Teens Cheer at Community Center Dance

Kenneth Moyer Tommy Ray Arnold Sawyer and Johnny Ripley form the Rhythm Kings Western band. They played a community center dance last Saturday with 10 cent admission benefiting the March of Dimes. Student Council plans a hat pass for more funds.

Alpine High hosts eighth annual girls tourney opening play

Alpine High School opens its fourth annual girls basketball tournament with Balmorhea facing Barstow at 3 pm and Fort Davis meeting Rankin at 4:30 pm. Alpine, Grandfalls, and Presidio also chase the title as Rankin and Balmorhea vie for past champions.

Sul Ross Homemakers Plan 1956 57 Banquet for Our Guy

Martha Hill a freshman home making major voices wish to sleep during the between term break. Future Homemakers prepare to entertain in honor of their 1956 57 Our Guy Tyrone Hillyer. President Jackie Hance says a banquet will be held February 16 with members bringing dates for afternoon and evening events. The championship game is scheduled for 9 p m Saturday.

Sul Ross meets Eastern New Mexico University in Big Lake in a Lone Star Conference game on neutral ground. The Lobos hold a 12-7 season record and previously defeated ENMU 75-61 at Sul Ross, with coach Lee Galloway steering the team.

Wildenthal Installed As Scout Council Official

Dr. Bryan Wildenthal president of Sul Ross State College was installed as vice president of the Buffalo Trails Boy Scout Council at a Midland meeting. Also present were Mrs. Wildenthal and Mr. and Mrs. Don Littleton. Littleton serves on the executive board and holds the Silver Beaver award. Wildenthal spoke in response to the welcome address.

Old Spanish Trail Meet Outlines Highway Plan Here

A program of the Old Spanish Trail Highway Association will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Chamber of Commerce building during a meeting of Alpine businessmen and citizens. Peter Koch of Travel U S 90 Highway Association said organizers aim to unite seven highway groups from Jacksonville Florida to San Diego California under the Old Spanish Trail banner.

Brewster County Road Projects Estimated at $98,000

Bids are opened on two Brewster County highway jobs expected to cost 98,000 dollars. Alpine resident engineer Charles T. Holmes states surfacing is planned on U S 90 from 13.9 miles east of Marathon to Lemon Gap for 4.6 miles and a seal coat on State 118 from 30 miles south of Alpine for 30.1 miles.

A Western Geophysical Company seismic crew that worked in the Big Bend area for Pure Oil Company left last weekend for Seagraves Texas to continue field operations.
