Inaugural Day Reflections At Alpine Stock Show

A lively Alpine stock show drew hundreds to the Big Bend Wool and Mohair warehouse for lamb and calf judging. Notable wins included Eddie Fowlkes taking two grand championships, with remarks from Frank Fowlkes and Dottie Ogle. Guests from Fort Davis and Marathon attended, as Cronkite signed off, and a Country Club party followed featuring a roasted pig and homemade tamales.

Tri County Concert Presents Pianist Richard Cass in Marfa

The Tri County Community Concert Association schedules Richard Cass, acclaimed pianist, for 8 p.m. Tuesday Jan 29 at First Christian Church Marfa. Cass rose to fame after winning the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Auditions in New York Town Hall in 1953 at age 21 and studied in Paris on a Fulbright. He later returned to tour nationwide in 1955-56 and will perform works by Mozart Scarlatti Beethoven Chopin Schubert Liszt Debussy and Prokofiev. The card date error notes the third concert timing.

Keith Peters Recital For March of Dimes

Keith Peters, a polio victim, will give a piano recital at a 5 p.m. silver tea in the Community Center to benefit the March of Dimes. His teacher Mary Pancoast Bogel will present him with assistance from violin student Tommy Posey. Peters hopes to raise about $100.

A large crowd from Alpine Fort Davis Marathon Marfa and surrounding towns attended a party. Guests included Mrs Gearhart Roxana Mrs Gay Howard Mrs Howrard Rene Green Marie Simpson and many others in stylish outfits. Attendees chatted waved to friends and enjoyed tamales as the evening concluded with warm goodbyes.

Mrs Bevier Hosts Wednesday Bridge Club Luncheon

Mrs George Bevier entertained the Wednesday Bridge Club with a luncheon in the Texas Cafe private dining room. Lavender and white stock decorated the table. After lunch members played bridge at Mrs Bevier’s home. High scores went to Mrs Hugh White and second to Mrs John W Pate. Bingo was won by Mrs John C Epper son. Participants included Mesdames Burgess Frazier Morelock Pierce Shults White Wilde nthal Epper son and Ogle with guests Mrs Vogt Pate and Winter.

McDaniels Name Daughter Patti Born in Dolores Colorado

Mr and Mrs G C McDaniel of Dolores Colorado welcomed a daughter named Patti born Tuesday evening. The baby weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and has two sisters Jill and Penny. Maternal grandparents are Roy Whiteside and Mrs Gertrude McDaniel is the paternal grandmother of Amarillo. Mrs McDaniel is the former Evelyn Whiteside.

Garnett Family Welcomes Daughter In El Paso

Mr and Mrs Ray Garnett of El Paso are the proud parents of a daughter born January 21 at Hotel Dieu. The newborn weighed 8 pounds 8 1/2 ounces and is the couple’s first child. Paternal grandmother is Mrs Ruth Garnett of Alpine and maternal grandmother is Mrs Sonia Sesiunin of San Francisco California. The new arrival is Mrs Garnett’s first grandchild.
