Brewster County joins the March of Dimes drive with Kenneth Stucke announcing a successful campaign. Donations are expected to exceed $2000 though full tallies await Friday coin pickups and final reports for The Avalanche. The Mother's March on Polio raised $421.49, and Keith Peters’s silver tea recital netted $102 with a quilt sale contributing $35.

Haywood Dies at Pruett Ranch at 63
Winfred Clinton Haywood, 63, died January 28 apparently of a heart attack on the H. B. Pruett Ranch. He and his brother A W Haywood Jr. managed the ranch while Mr. Pruett was in Houston. His body found next morning after he fell from his horse near the house. Funeral arrangements through Livingston Funeral Home in Seminole. He was a bachelor.

Death of H M Warnock Brother of Alpine Man
H M Warnock aged 54 and brother of B H Warnock of Alpine died Wednesday in a Fort Stockton hospital. Funeral services were held there yesterday. He had resided in Fort Stockton since 1916 and ran a painting and plumbing business for many years.

District Judge C E Patterson set two rape cases for trial March 6. Willie Valenzuela faces rape charges while Robert Valenzuela is charged with assault with intent to rape. A special venire will be called for Willie Valenzuela per District Attorney Lucius Bunton. Richard Moore five year old son of Mr and Mrs Ira Moore of Valentine recovered after ingesting strychnine from candy left on his porch. He suffered convulsions last Friday and was treated at Alpine hospital then moved to Marfa. Authorities say the candy may have been for a dog and urge careful handling of poisons noting animal poisoning is a misdemeanor.

Elva Molinar led Alpine with 20 points and Mary Galindo added 16 as Georgia Lee Morgan scored 6. Lucia Valenzuela sparked Alpine defense as Rankin’s Helen Mitchell and Mary Adair led with 13 and 12 points.
