Death Toll From Iraq War Grows With Two South Carolinians
Memorials marked the death of Sgt Maj Michael Stack, 48, killed during an Easter ambush while leading a Special Forces team. Staff Sgt Esau Patterson Jr., 25, of Ridgeland, part of the 1st Armored Division, was also killed when their convoy was attacked. Patterson, in Iraq eight years, leaves a wife, daughter and stepson in Texas amid questions on the war’s purpose. Patterson’s funeral plans were not set. Stack had been buried at Arlington National Cemetery last week and was mourned at a Lynches River church service.
