A house finch was spotted in John Hatcher’s yard on February 3, a first for the yard and one of very few in Aiken since a 1977 report. The note contrasts house and purple finches, notes origins in California and Eastward spread, and cites Greenville December 1966 as an early state sighting.

Wagener Woman Killed by Gunshot Outside Bar
Wagener resident Eartha Lee Watson, 29, died from a single .38 caliber pistol shot outside a Wagener bar Saturday night. Her husband, Andrew David Watson, 37, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident, according to Aiken County Sheriff’s Department.
