The Rev J H Wood at M E church urged North Yakima residents to uphold law and reform municipal governance. He explained state anti slot machine provisions, penalties, and the role of the city as a public corporation in enforcing fines for violations.
The speaker cites the city of North Yakima docket showing numerous nickel-in-the-slot violations in 1901 where fines were paid to $5 per machine instead of the required amounts, costing the school fund about $395 to $790. He urges taxpayers to demand proper remittance and prosecution if needed.
Lieut Frank T Liggett administered an exam to fill non commissioned offices of Company C with eight applicants from privates. Eight passed including Walter Rowe Herbert Shaw D J Calkins and F T McCoy becoming corporals. An upcoming corporal exam will select sergeants. Liggett also learned he passed a separate exam and will receive a captain’s commission soon. All lieutenant applicants failed.

An advertisement for Foley's Honey and Tar claims cures for coughs colds bronchitis asthma croup whooping cough hoarseness bronchial troubles pneumonia and la grippe. It lists multiple respiratory ailments as treatable by the product.
