Robbers entered Joseph Ponti saloon in Prosser on Monday night and robbed proprietor and patrons of $315 cash a watch and a revolver. Two masked men fled on a west bound freight train. Police report no arrests.
Ira M. Krutz received a telegram from James B. Kerr assistant general counsel at St. Paul for Northern Pacific Railway company stating the secretary of interior directed issue of patent to the railway. The long contest over the city tract is practically settled and the railway will obtain title to the property sold in the district and adjust titles.
Sheriff Tucker arrested L. J. Estes in Klickitat county on a warrant charging him with swearing to the age of 15 year old Lolita Rafferty to obtain a license for the marriage to R. S. Lasley. Lasley and Lolita wed February 19 in North Yakima with Justice Taggard officiating. Prosecutor W. C. Rafferty says he will pursue the case to the full extent of the law.
The Greene Mercantile company opens its spring stock sale in North Yakima today and runs through Thursday evening. Light refreshments are served and every coffee purchase of 50 cents earns a pretty vase. China and Haviland ware are displayed attractively. Mrs. S. P. Bruce, Shredded Wheat demonstrator, attends to teach new uses and gives samples.
The Order of Washington announces a necktie social at Woodmen hall on the evening of April 7 with free admission and a small charge for ice cream and cake. A music program will be performed. Members’ contest to recruit new lodges ends with the losing team hosting a banquet for the winners.
Inspector Beck warns no spray but the state prescribed formula will be recognized. Dunn spray is deemed worthless for lacking required ingredients. Watering is useless. Orchardists must switch to the formula with salt sulfur and lime. Fine tickets accepted at the James Studio by April 19.
State Fair board schedules its regular annual meeting next Monday in Dr. T. B. Gunn's office to organize for 1902. J M Baxter has resigned and is replaced by J E Shan non appointed by Gov Mc Bride. Mrs Saylor reports son William Saylor recovering after Seattle electric car crash with skull fracture and possible hearing loss. he is in New York.
R N Harrison recovered his lost pony today after it was taken to the reservation by an Indian and held by another for a reward. The pony was returned by the Indians and a reward of five dollars was paid.
