The 26th annual convention of the Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Society of the East Ubto Synod, Lutheran Church, met in Smithville with 48 delegates and many attendees. Reports showed growth with 21 new societies, receipts over 1100 dollars, and a special fund for a bed in a women’s hospital in India rising from 1000 to 1187 dollars. Delegates included Rev. Will M Beck and Mrs. Elizabeth Stanley McCauley in native dress. Officers elected for the year: President Mrs. J. B. Summers. Vice President Mrs. A. K. Felton. Second Vice President Mrs. J. K. Thomas B. Keeler, a widely known West Salem attorney, died Saturday at 10:30 PM after a brief illness. Born October 14, 1869 in Congress Village, he practiced law in West Salem for thirty years, taught earlier, and never pursued public office. He leaves wife Ida Writmer and two children, Keeler and Miss Keeler. Funeral 2 PM Monday was led by Odd Fellows and local clergy, with court observers suspending proceedings in his memory.
