Wallace Murray Corporation shows sales of 318.6 million in 1974, up from 295.7 million, but net income fell to 8.09 million from 10.60 million after switching from FIFO to LIFO. Illinois Gear Division and Canadian operations boosted results while building products, automotive components, tools, and strikes weighed on earnings.
Brent Bryan and Kenny Nitsch of Winters are on the Vice President's Honor Roll at Texas State Technical Institute Rolling Plains Campus Sweetwater. Bryan and Nitsch study Livestock and Ranch Operations and must maintain a 3.5 GPA. The vice president is Dr. Jack Tompkins with James Connally Campus Waco and campus GM is D A Pevehouse.
San Angelo guests visit Campbells after surgery and lunch with Buck Campbell. Multiple families from Winters Rotan Coleman Ballinger Monahans and Fort Worth visit Crews area residents. A bridal shower for Van Ray Spill is held at St John s Lutheran Church with music by Mrs Paul Michaelis and a May meeting planned for the Crews Community Center.
The week’s menu lists daily lunches including hamburgers or combo sandwiches on Monday, fried steak on Tuesday, rolled roast on Wednesday, hot dogs or ham on Thursday, and Western spaghetti on Friday. Each day offers sides, desserts, and beverages such as milk or chocolate milk.
Six Peewee basketball games were played over the weekend before Easter. Night Hawks 18 Bluejays 8 with Becky Palmer tree scoring 16 for the Nighthawks and Anna Vera 4 for the Bluejays.
Blanche La Nell Wharton, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Marshall Wharton of Merkel, engaged to Jimmie Travis Elliott of Big Lake. The couple plan to wed August 2 at First Baptist Church Merkel. Miss Wharton, Winters High School graduate, will earn a BS in speech pathology from Hardin-Simmons University and works at Abilene State School. Elliott, a Iraan High School alum, is pursuing a BA in music education at Hardin-Simmons University.
