Ways to Start Grapevines From Cuttings and Beds
Horticulturists advise easy grapevine propagation at home. Use burying canes to root sections in dirt or mulch, plant in nursery rows with 6 8 inch spacing, and separate buds next spring. For larger programs, cuttings of two or three buds may be buried in loose soil or sand to develop calloused roots before transplanting final plants.

Apple Trees Need Plant Food for Growth
A horticultural bulletin urges fertilizing thin upland or poor soil apple orchards. Associate horticulturist F H Ballou at the Ohio Experiment Station recommends a mixture of equal parts nitrate or ammonium sulfate and acid phosphate applied early in spring. Younger trees need 3 to 5 pounds, twenty-year-olds about 10 pounds, spread evenly in a circle beyond the branches. Trees with rich foliage may require little nitrogenous food.
