Buffalo Bill’s Old Ranch fades from Western legend
The Buffalo Bill Cody ranch near North Platte once a show place is now a rundown property called Cody’s ranch. From 20,000 acres it shrank to 1,200, with land under company ownership and tenant farming. Cody earned the name after supplying buffalo meat to Union Pacific workers in 1867 and 1868, killing about 4,300 buffalo in 18 months.
