Wimberley’s early roots traced from Tonkawa to Winters’ Mill

Adelia Scudder surveys Wimberley history from Tonkawa occupation through 19th century settlement. Indian artifacts, mound sites on Cypress Creek and Little Arkansas, and Winters’ Mill give rise to a growing community. Land patents and veterans’ grants shaped land distribution, with James Montgomery and Jacob De Cordova’s transfers helping form the town. The era sees a multi-family influx, a shared school church town hall, and wartime shifts as Hays County organized into beats.
