J W Foley of the Bistoarck Tribune will be in Williston October 18 to present one of his popular entertainments. An evening of rare enjoyment awaits attendees. The New Orleans Exposition Committee distributes a map claiming seventy nearby cities within 900 miles with 20 million people versus eight cities near San Francisco with 1 million. They argue granting the fair to New Orleans would save the nation about 200 million dollars in railroad fares.
Attorneys A J Bessie and T W Greer dissolve their partnership but both will continue to practice law in the city. One will retain the Rawson block offices, but which partner remains there has not been settled by Mr Bessie and Mr Greer.
Judges Arsenault Bloom and Jackson selected the Schaffer Record as the first prize winner from forty five submissions by editors visiting the city last August. Second and third prizes will be announced after the judges reconvene. the Graphic will publish all three winning articles.

R A Farris opens a new grocery store at the corner of 4th Avenue West and 6th Street West in Westlawn. The business features a broad line of groceries and invites customers to try it. The building includes several nicely furnished rooms above the store for rent. Everything is new. 14-2tp.
Washington reports the interstate commerce commission will investigate proposed grain and flax seed rate increases filed by western and northern railroads. Hearings will determine if any freight rises are suspended or approved. Aberdeen South Dakota hosts the October 10 inquiry on North and South Dakota grain routes to St. Paul and Chicago.
The directors of the local water users association met Friday to review the situation and pass resolutions. They directed the secretary to seek a deferred payment system for project senders so settlers can use water with only maintenance costs for years while saving to cover future payments. Cards will be mailed to landholders to gauge interest in applying if concessions are granted.
Theodore Roosevelt defeated Vice President Sherman for temporary chairman of the Republican state convention in Saratoga N Y. Roosevelt won 568 to 443 in the first count and 567 to 445 after an error was found. He praised Taft’s administration and urged a direct primary plank as old guard factions clashed over committee selection.
