Nehemiah G. Ordway Dakota Governor 1880 84
Nehemiah G. Ordway served as eighth territorial governor of Dakota from July 1880 succeeding Acting Governor Hand. Born 1828 in Warner New Hampshire he earlier was a twelve year Army sergeant in the U S House. His term saw boom settlements and county seat disputes amid corruption charges, though none proven against him. He promoted capital move to Bismarck and later returned to Washington seeking a U S Senate seat from North Dakota but was not elected.

Atlantic fleet sails from Australia toward Manila
The American Atlantic fleet under Rear Admiral Sperry sailed from Albany Western Australia at five pm Friday for Manila about 3600 miles away with an expected October 3 arrival. The flagship Connecticut did not depart with the group, leaving at midnight to catch up. A delay was caused by coaling and unreliable chartered colliers. Sperry sent a message to Alfred Deakin premier of the commonwealth thanking him for good wishes.

Wateringbury England Sept 19 Major General Charles Edward Luard retired whose wife was murdered near London August 24 died by throwing himself before a railroad train. His body found near a crossing after he left Col Charles Edward Warde s home where he was a guest. A letter stated he would be found under the train and blamed accusations from others for breaking him. The general had received letters charging him with murder.
