Will Make Citizens Judge Goss Visits City for Papers

Will Make Citizens Judge Goss will be in the city on the 21st to issue citizenship papers to all qualified applicants. This is the last chance under the old law before the new law takes effect next month making naturalization harder. Names for second papers must be posted 90 days and applicants must read and write English.

Record of record land office month sets new U S filing marks

The U S land office reports unprecedented activity in its first month with total fees of 6250.47 dollars. It notes no proofs were taken. most funds came from filings. Activities include 450 homestead entries totaling 4360 dollars in fees on 68949.36 acres and 239 acres with 1782 dollars in fees, plus 18 cancellation notices 18.60 and other items. Overall 69,188.71 acres were filed upon or proved up.

Train wrecks injure workers near Bartlett and city hotel

Two stock train wrecks harmed workers from Lari more, who were taken to Hotel Grace for treatment. The first wreck was caused by a brakeman failing to set signals on his first regular run. he vanished and remains unfound. Ten cars of merchandise burned. The second wreck near Bartlett at nine in the morning derailed by spreading raise, four cattle cars ditched with several animals killed.

Soo railroad extension targets Williams county and Williston rail link

Bismarck September 17 The Soo railroad extends from Garrison McLean County toward a point ninety miles northwest, aiming to reach Williams County near Hoffland or Nelson. The project could spur growth, with Garrison booming after last year’s extension and Underwood expanding. Officials hope to complete the line this fall despite heavy rock work on the Drake branch. If extended to Williston, a thirty to forty mile addition may be pursued by the Commercial Club.

Great Northern Relies on New Locomotives and Cars

Great Northern announces orders placed for 75 locomotives to be delivered next year and 5 rel cars for 1960. Henry James headed purchasing before joining Great Northern steamboat firm. Of 85 locomotives ordered by Hill line this year 75 are in service mainly on the east end. 10 Baldwin engines likely en route to St Paul. Western grades require different motive power, and 1006 engines won’t reach the west end. West-end needs expected to be met by next year with engines suited to stiff grades. Freight cars, ore cars ordered months ago, remain largely unfilled and not ready for the lake season as navigation ends this fall.
