William A. Howard Dakota Governor 1812 1880
William A. Howard sixth territorial governor of Dakota succeeded Pennington in 1878. Native of Vermont born 1812 and former Detroit postmaster who served in the Thirty-fifth and Thirty-sixth Congresses. He died early in 1880 after a long public life of service and reform.
