A 45 minute melee on a Point San Pedro shrimp drying platform involved 50 Chinese fishermen and a large rat swarm fighting under fear of water. Constable George Agnew and Deputy Game Warden George Ortman arrived with armed deputies, routing the rats and saving the battered Chinamen Ah Tong Quong Hing Ah Lee and Sung Suey who suffered serious bites as over 200 rats were killed.
